Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

4.5

I  loved  Sword of Kaigen (highly recommend if you haven't read it), so I  was super keen to read Wang's latest epic fantasy. The premise exited me as well - academy setting, enemies to friends, interesting magic system. The book didn't disappoint, even though it turn out to be exactly as I  had expected. Wang's characters are flawed but so interesting and she makes you want to keep reading to see what happens to them and how they develop. It's also an incredibly incisive and cleverly written story, with Wang addressing multiple issues in a realistic, nuanced, and merciless way. it definitely made me think! If all those elements I've just described appeal to you, then I'd highly recommend reading  Blood Over Bright Haven.
