I need to be honest… the beginning caught me by surprise that the main characters were children, they were ten in the beginning. They grew up together, we could read about their childhood together and how they came from different worlds. A typical rich girl, poor boy scenario. So basically the girl’s parents banned him from being friends with the girl and he did so without telling the girl why they stopped being friends…
I expected them to be adults based on the title of the book and I thought there would be a lot of spice in the book. Since “Spanish Fire” is what the series called. But this was more of a coming of age novel where they found themselves. They were only sixteen which definitely wasn’t what I expected going into the story. I feel misled by how the book was promoted and how it seemed it would be a spicy and passionate novel between a matador and a dancer... There were definitely some passionate scenes which threw me off guard as they were only sixteen! I don’t know… I don’t want to read about 16 year olds making love to each other…
I’m so conflicted by my feelings towards this book because what it was I really enjoyed it but it definitely wasn’t what I expected or wanted going into the story… In the beginning I was genuinely waiting for them to grow up, I just thought there would be a few chapters from their childhood and then their adulthood. But it never happened, at least in this novel.
There was a thing toward the end. As a vegetarian and animal lover, I understand Rosa and what she did and why but in the same time it was the total betrayal of her father and his beliefs and what he and his elders worked so hard for… Me whose father died when I was eight, I could never understand how Rosa could backstab her own father like that, who literally gave her everything that she could ever asked for.
THE CLIFFHANGER!!! 😫😫😫😫
I need the sequel right now….. 😭😭😭😭
I’m so mad by the ending! I decided to rate the book 3 stars… but overall I very much enjoyed it so please don’t think my rating is negative it’s just my feelings towards the whole novel.
