Herc by Phoenicia Rogerson
Did not finish book. Stopped at 37%.
Cool concept, really poor execution. There were way too many POVs and the only one of them that had a unique choice was the child, where the language was abbreviated and dumbed down. The chapters skipped around in time, retelling the same bits of the story from different perspectives, but this didn't do anything to add character development to anyone at all. I'm disappointed, because this sort of book is strongly in my wheelhouse, but I just couldn't make myself keep going.
Also, the author deciding to just run with calling him Hercules in an otherwise Greek story made my teeth clench *every* time (especially with the kid randomly sounding out "her-q-lees" 😑). Did she just do it so the title of the book could be "Herc"? Come on.
