Calling for a Blanket Dance by Oscar Hokeah
Did not finish book. Stopped at 60%.
I found the quality of the chapters (what are essentially short stories) hit-and-miss. Some of them, like that of Ever’s grandmother and his sister, are incredibly affecting in that the reader gets to witness Ever’s growth peripherally in a way I found compelling. Others, like those of his some of his cousins that are not in regular communion with him, told the story much more directly in a way that felt more like they were meant to just serve as more direct third-person narrations of specific moments in Ever’s life.
