The Alchemist's Secret by Scott Mariani
4.0
I have read a couple of the later books in this series and thought I would go back to the beginning and start at the start. I liked this novel, although there were some issues with reality, let's say. I was surprised to find that I had exactly the same issue with this book as I did with one of the later books, in that the book set the primary character up as a lone wolf and then immediately had him fall in love with the first female character who was explained in any detail. It seemed like he wasn't interested, she fell in love with him and then bang, he realises he loves her. It just doesn't seem like something this character would do. I mean, I guess he does leave her at numerous points in the book (which I don't think is a spoiler), but it still seems out of character. Perhaps though I only think this is out of character because I've read some of the later books. Maybe this is exactly what he does the whole time...
I like this series enough to continue with it and I look forward to reading the second book!
