The Pact by Sharon Bolton

This is back to the kind of book I'm used to, and with a twist that those who know me, will know catches my attention. Rich people. Proper old school, old money, private school attending, rich people. In Oxford no less. So I have a fascination with rich people generally but more specifically British aristocrats and their children. I am intrigued by boarding schools and polo and seasons of events that require specific outfits. Give me all that. So this book was off to a good start. It grabbed my attention, it contained morally dubious characters and selfish idiots and a person going to prison for a long time. All good stuff.

Here's where it gets not so good. The ending was completely confusing, not so much a twist, more like the author couldn't decide on a direction so just made everyone murdered or a murderer at various points. I didn't get it. I knew the person they were pointing at didn't do it, but boy did they have reason to. I just didn't get who actually did do it in the end. I know who was revealed but that made no sense. So either I'm dumb, I have fundamentally misunderstood a major plot point, or it's confusing. Take your pick!
