Andrew Joseph White has made a name for himself writing stories about trans kids that bite back in a world that wishes we were quiet, invisible, and dead; Compound Fracture is no exception. Miles’ story starts off bloody and never lets up. Being trans in rural communities is hard as it is, but add in a century long blood feud with a power hungry sheriff that ain’t all that afraid to get his hands dirty — getting out with your life and family intact is a miracle and then some. This story is not kind, it is not neat, it is not done up all pretty to appease the masses. It’s angry, messy, vengeful, an important story to tell
