The Dragon's Promise by Elizabeth Lim

adventurous slow-paced

3.25

Didn't enjoy this as much as the first book, but not sure if the problem is the book or me! I think the villain of the first book was much more interesting and handled in a nuanced way, whereas the one in this sequel is just far more cartoonishly villainous. I continue to really enjoy the food descriptions and some of the visual imagery, but this felt overlong, the first 40% feels quite different to the rest, and I just didn't feel the same spark. So not bad by any means, but more average than the first one.
