An intense, passionate story of two women who connect in the aftermath of the second world war, as they try and discover the secrets each one is hiding. This story is told almost entirely within a house, adding to the claustrophic, heavy atmosphere.
Isabel is a difficult character to like, she's very intense, very demanding. Despite being, I presume, in her thirties, she reminded me more of an older woman, stuck in her ways and her opinions. Despite this, the attraction between her and the freer spirited Eva made sense to me.
I did get some clues and started piecing together what had happened during the war as the story progressed, but the reveal being told through Eva's diary entries was a nice surprise, and I felt her words were some of the strongest in the story.
