Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood
3.0
I just finished this one so im attempting to put all of my thoughts on this together. first the cover is utterly stunning and I need more covers like this, and I might just be buying this book for the cover bc the story was...just borderline 3 star- I feel the bump to 3 stars was bc of the cover. which makes me sad! I did heavy enioy the work drama though, and I didn't think that part of the plot was bad, I actually enjoyed it. its just mostly how the relationship between Rue and Eli was good at first, and started off on a very good note. they were talking and just shared a genuine connection. however as the story went on everything was overshadowed by sex (I know crazy coming from an Ali halewood book review). it was just a bit too much, like at the start Eli would not stop talking about how much he wanted to have sex with her and it's like okay, but it just got too much, like the teenage boy is just cringey and not what I want to hear every 5 seconds. a girl can appreciate the sex but it was just so reductive, especially after their relationship escalated, the only "vulnerable" moments we got were the stories they shared which were barley a page long. it wasn't a bad book it just wasn't that good? I think there is a way to have an erotica romance still with a connection clear between the characters and this just didn't show that. I was HEAVILY ANNOYED at the choice of pov's in this one. Rue's pov is in first person, but WHY did she decide to make Eli's third person?? sometimes I would go from Rue's to Eli's and forget and just be confused. and Eli was just I dont know strange? he would mention his ex every 5 minutes, and the first time they got together he went on this weird tangent about how he doesn't know what he'd do if he was still with his ex because of how he feels towards rue...like okay...not weird at all..... but I still did enjoy it somewhat? so yay?
