The Fugitive by Nichole Severn

5.0

The Fugitive is the story of Raleigh Wilde, who is on the run. Hot on her heels is deputy US Marshal Beckett Foster, who wants to bring her to justice.

Synopsis:
Raleigh, the former CFO of Mothers Come First foundation, is suspected of embezzlement. She has to prove herself innocent, and she can't go to jail, not before she gets a chance to prove her innocence.

Beckett has opted for the job to bring her in when she skips the trial. Believing her to be guilty of all the charges against her, he will do anything to ensure that she doesn't get to live freely after committing a crime, even if she is the love of his life.

Review:
A totally unexpected beginning, where the heroine has her gun trained on the hero. And I love such scenarios. Raleigh has been on the run for four months and what shocked me more was that before that, Raleigh and Beckett had a six-month-long relationship. From the time when they first met in Portland, that too under thrilling circumstances.

The Fugitive begins with Beckett arresting Raleigh, following which an action-packed journey starts, involving a shootout and chase through the jungle. Narrated in the third person, the Fugitive (Raleigh) and the Marshal (Beckett) jumped from one riveting scene to the next.

During an extremely tense moment, we're also introduced to Finnick Reed, former combat medical specialist turned US marshal who has his own story in the next book in the series – The Witness.

My heart hurt for both Beckett and Raleigh, but a little bit more for the latter, since she got her heart broken by the same man twice within the span of the story. Just because he couldn't let go of his past. Raleigh's strength and resilience shine through though, along with her vulnerable moments.

I never once imagined the twists that [a:Nichole Severn|5763145|Nichole Severn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1544285676p2/5763145.jpg] brought into the story, through both their past lives. Neither could I guess either the suspect or the mind-blowing way their real identity was revealed.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I loved this thrilling journey which had its moments of restfulness, and that conclusion was beautiful. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

The Marshal Law series starts with a short story – The Search – which is a part of the [b:Summer Vibes Romance Anthology|55026197|Summer Vibes Romance Anthology|Teresa DesJardien|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1597843662l/55026197._SY75_.jpg|85549607]. It is the story of kick-ass deputy US Marshal Lucy Whitlock and her partner, the dreamy Dermot Hathaway, who are investigating the disappearance of a young girl. The entire series is based in various cities of Oregon.

Thank you to the author for an e-ARC of the book.
