Grace & Style: The Art of Pretending You Have It by Grace Helbig
5.0
I loved this book! To be perfectly honest I wasn't sure if I would because style guides aren't really my, well, style for various personal reasons, but then as its release date drew closer and I heard her talk more about it I realized it's Grace Helbig! I love her videos, I love her first book (Grace's Guide: The Art of Pretending to be a Grown-up), and I trust her... Why WOULDN'T I love this book! So I gave it a shot and I was not disappointed.
Grace & Style is all her own voice. It's unexpectedly personal, it's witty, and even laugh-out-loud funny. There is genuine advice sprinkled throughout, couched in Grace's signature cheesy and self-deprecating humor. This read is a refreshing break from everything that has become all too serious (especially all that surrounds fashion). The pages of Grace & Style are splashed with bright and cheerful colors and designs, and fun pictures of Grace Helbig herself adding to the book's positive vibes. I loved this book. I am so glad I put my time and trust into this woman. Grace Helbig is as endearing in print as she is in her videos. I would recommend both to anyone looking for light-hearted fun or an awkward older sister who gives questionable advice.
"Hope this wasn't the worst advice in the whole goddamn world." - Grace & Style
Now, without any spoilers, I would just like to say that The Sweatpants Diaries has got to be the greatest work of fiction I have ever read. Who knew I would become so engaged and invested in the story of a pair of sweatpants. But it had everything!, and I was hooked.
Grace and Style is a wonderful reminder not to take things too seriously. Not life, not ourselves, and certainly not fashion. Because it is all temporary.
"Bodies are beautiful and stupid. Surround yourself with souls that inspire you." - Grace & Style.
