Big Swiss by Jen Beagin

5.0

Greta recently moved to Hudson, NY and found a job transcribing sessions for a sex therapist. She becomes infatuated with a client she likes to call “Big Swiss” and one day she recognizes that same distinct voice at the dog park. The two hit it off and quickly transition from friends to lovers, however, Big Swiss (Flavia) is married (to a man) and Greta has to lie about her identity if she wants to keep her job.

If you want to laugh uncontrollably, put BIG SWISS on your radar. It was so incredibly dark, deliciously twisted, and downright hysterical. The vibes are “gloriously unhinged women” and “messy bisexuals” but there is so much unexpected depth to the story. This book explores how flawed individuals have tried and failed to outrun their trauma. How they are unable to navigate their way through the loss and darkness in their life and ultimately find help where they least expect it. The author addresses important themes such has depression, suicide, mental health, physical assault, and emotional trauma. This was one of the most hilariously heartbreaking tales I’ve read and I highly recommend if you’re into that kind of thing.
