The Map of Knowledge: How Classical Ideas Were Lost and Found: A History in Seven Cities by Violet Moller
medium-paced
5.0
Was this about maps? No. Was it very good anyway? Yes. The subtitle is exactly right, this is about the transmission of astronomy, mathematics, and medicine from 500 CE to 1500 CE, and it pays appropriate attention to the role of the Islamic world in preserving, translating, and developing upon (majority) Greek texts. Well written, thought provoking, and thoroughly foot-noted.
