Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

1.0

I wonder if it’s a “me, not you” type of situation, but I can’t help but be entirely displeased by Neverwhere. Nothing in it worked for me, it was utterly uninteresting from beginning to end and at some point I just had to call it quits.

The worldbuilding, to me, felt like a sequence of dark corridors that just never came together, not even with some more interesting stuff happening in the second half…

No one was very interesting, and out of all of the uninteresting characters, Richard was the most uninteresting of them all. The most intolerable element in the entire book…

The plot is akin to the one of a bland videogame. Similar to Perdido Street Station (also “world before plot” type of fantasy novel set in an urban enviorment), I’ll rather read other stories set in this universe than the one we ended up with, and that’s never a good sign…

I’d rather never having started this novel. It’s a pity because I liked all other things I’ve read by Gaiman. I can’t say I can recommend it…
