The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

3.0

I truly had very high expectations for this book. I really did. Lali and Gita’s story is truly incredible and absolutely deserves to be told. The problem with this book is that is just not written very well. It was originally intended to be a screenplay and it reads very much like one with the way the story jumps from here to there, much as if you were watching it in a movie. Upon further research there are apparently several historical inaccuracies, which yes it’s fiction, but the subject matter is something that should be purveyed with the utmost transparency and truth. I also find it interesting, and not in a good way, that the author has written two more historical fiction novels based on Holocaust survivors. That being said there are many, many excellent books from survivors or their family members that are much more deserving of readers’ time.
