The Edge of Recall by Kristen Heitzmann

5.0

This is by far one of the best books I have ever read. It was full of suspense, romance, and an unexpected twist to the plot. The book was very spiritual and portrayed the need for God to deliver us from our own monsters that try to control our lives.

The first half of the book was mostly focused on Tessa's mental health and her near obsession with building labybrinths. However, I won't deny that the labyrinths were fascinating. I finished the book very late at night and all I could think about were these labyrinths that consumed Tessa's life.

The characters were very relateable. Tessa, with her unstability and disturst, Smith, with his intuition to make things right, and Bair...oh Bair. I had sympathy for him, especially when he revealed his feelings for Tessa. I also enjoyed the other characters, especially the poor guy who lived under the cistern. And Dr. Brenner! I was quite sure for a long time that he was one of the bad guys.

I loved--absolutely loved--the romance between Smith and Tessa. In the very beginning, I suspected it would lead to this but I wasn't completely sure. However, Tessa needed him just as much as he needed her. It made me smile just a little when she lied down with him on the hospital bed.

The ending was shocking and dangerous but it was one of the best wraps to a book I'd read in a while. I would certainly recommend it to anyone...or possibly just keep it to myself and read it again.
