Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years by Julie Andrews Edwards

4.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: I enjoyed 'Home Work' as my book for the Tennessee R.E.A.D.s challenge prompt of reading a book about a famous or infamous female.

Overall rating: I have to start by saying that I'm completely biased because I believe Julie Andrews to be a true gem of a human and I grew up listening to and watching them. I have two very distinct pictures of Andrews in my head, Maria from The Sound of Music and Queen Clarisse Renaldi in The Princess Diaries. From the moments Andrews chose to share in 'Home Work' she feels like a real-life Maria or Queen Clarisse. I did feel like some of the stories got a bit repetitive or seemed liked they were maybe not the most interesting pieces of their lives, but I did enough how Andrews approached this book - thorough, (what felt to be) honest, and willing to share parts of their life that may otherwise not see the light of day. I think 'Home Work' is for a very niche reading group but those who are fans of Andrews or their work would enjoy hearing the behind-the-scenes. I'll also add, Andrews does a great job setting up the book and letting you know what it will and won't be. That is always appreciated.

Reader's Note: If you can, get the audiobook of 'Home Work.' Andrews's telling of her experiences are so completely wonderful and her narration is an absolute dream.
