Really wanted to like this one. Amazing magic system, really interesting world, and characters have so much potential to be interesting and engaging.

But for some reason I'm struggling to connect with any of the characters in this one. I think it has to do with the way Bennett writes his prose, and paces his character moments between the world building; it makes all the characters feel samey, like just a checklist of characteristics and past experiences, rather than a person I can empathize with.
