Masters of Death by Olivie Blake

3.0

I truly loved the ending this story brought us to and the messages along the way. I immediately loved the writing from page one and was expecting to fall in love with this book if we continued that narration throughout.

This is set up in a way where you're switching timelines and povs multiple times while also having a present day plot to follow. I found myself liking the way the flashbacks were told a lot more than what was going on with our characters current time. I found the conversations during current time to be extremely repetitious and the constant asking about 'the game' became very frustrating to constantly be reading about.

Mind you, the story doesn't really feel like it picks up until after the 200 page mark but once you get there, you understand that what was brought up prior is important to the meaning and outcome of this story. It's definitely a book that you have to stick to in order to really get a feel for what the purpose is. I do think it was worth it, my only issue being the large percentage of this book with our characters in the same room not getting a single thing done when they keep bringing up things that need to be done.

I was very 50/50 the entire time. I felt quite a bit, I did cry, I did appreciate what this story was saying. On the other hand, there was large portion that dragged on way too long.

Lastly, I will say the synopsis of this book, in my opinion, gives a terrible idea of what you're getting into. If you're deciding on reading this, I suggest reading the reviews instead to figure out if it would be for you or not!
