This is my 4th Wells, I've now read his earliest and arguable to most popular of his books. I think I can confidently say, he is a fav author I will absolutely look at his later works and see if they are under-hyped and just as good, as I've never heard of any of his later works.  I found this one to be the best so far (2x 4stars and a 3tar). I love how he manages to fit some world-building, drama, plot, and character development into less than 250 pages most of the time. For me, sci-fi is an intimidating genre but I love classics, so for me, Wells is a brilliant way to consume sci-fi. His books are approachable, well-paced with amazing plotlines and concepts. I also enjoy that I still enjoy these classics, even knowing how common these tropes now are. As Wells books help develop or start these tropes, the fact they still hold up is amazing. I also enjoyed the ending I know a few people think it's anti-climatic I don't I thought it grounded the book into reality and added the human/horror element, humans did not win, they were just able to hold on longer.
