Black Elk Speaks: Being the Life Story of a Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux by Black Elk

Neihardt is kinda weird and adds so much dramatization + completely rewrites sections of his conversations with Black Elk. This edition (The Complete Edition) has footnotes for all of Neihardt’s changes, and compares them to the original unchanged transcript.

Black Elk is an incredible storyteller and visionary. His recounting of his own life is beautiful, and so painful.
