I went into this knowing little about the true events it was based on (the characters and story itself is a work of fiction) and this has enlightened and enraged me. It's about the despicable and disturbing overreach of the US government into the reproductive rights of black women and poor women and the forced sterilization practices. To know this really happened and still does is nauseating and heartbreaking. The story follows two little girls and the doctor who tried to save them and it's shocking that anything like this was allowed to happen. Everyone should read this.
