Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson

challenging dark mysterious tense

4.5

I can never read the Truly Devious books fast enough. Nine Liars is a brilliant addition to the saga, Stevie herself just as much of a mystery as the double axe murder. Even with all her crime-solving success, she feels aimless, like the only thing tethering her to the present is David and her friends. How her insecurities and anxiety drive her actions, and the repercussions of those actions, were so immediate that it almost felt like she was committing some sort of crime instead of solving one. I always love how Johnson unwinds the mystery, and Nine Liars was no exception.
