So dissapointed... i am not much of a historical fiction reader but I am a fantasy reader and this one sounded promising. However, most of the book read more like historical fiction than fantasy and therefore I was quite bored. I know that is not the book's fault. This is just because of my genre preferences. The writing was good but the way in which she wrote the multiple perspectives felt a bit weird.

But also the fantasy part wasn"t that enjoyable to me. I liked the magic system and I liked the trials. The trials gave it a little bit of 'The Night Circus' vibes. I love a good trial but unfortunately the actual trial was only a small portion of the story.

There is also Santángel, the familiar, who is the love interest of the book. I find their romance quite unbelievable and not hot at all. This man is thousands of years old... it comes of as creepy. I did not expext this and I did not want it!

I didn't understand the ending. Maybe it is just me but I had to look it up what was the explanation of this happy ending. When I heard the explanation I thought it was so far fetched and it felt like a stupid ending. But again, maybe I was in the minority of not understanding the ending and in that case it is maybe not so far fetched.
