Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
4.5 stars.
I loved this book, it’s definitely my favourite out of this series. I did not expect Mal to be Morozova’s ancestor, and I’m glad Leigh Bardugo made him his relative instead of Alina (that would’ve been really creepy considering everything that happened in the first book).
I wish we got to see more of Nikolai in this book, but I did enjoy getting to see more of Nadia, Tamar, Tolya, Zoya, etc. I’m also glad Mal and Alina got married at the end (but only because Alina wanted it). I don’t think Mal got a proper redemption ark for everything that happened in siege and storm. Although they did have some really cute moments in this book so I guess I’m ok with them together.
I was definitely not prepared for the amount of deaths in this book, even though they were mostly small characters their deaths were still so sad.
I also do wish Alina was still powerful, I found her when she had powers to be the most interesting.
