Was this the perfect book?? Maybe! Everything about this was just stunning, claustrophobic, haunting, and poignant. It’s a fairly short book that packs a major punch in creating mood and developing characters. The relationship between Leah and Miri was just… beautiful and so tender. How can we grieve someone who is still alive but just not the same? How do we continue to show up for the people we used to love? How do we let people go? The sea is haunted (but also you are, too).

“I used to think it was vital to know things, to feel safe in the learning and recounting of facts. I used to think it was possible to know enough to escape from the panic of not knowing, but I realize now that you can never learn enough to protect yourself, not really.”
