Maeve Fly by CJ Leede

dark medium-paced

4.0

I love going into a book blind and then being hit in the face with crazy shit.

To say this book was crazy, though, is an understatement. It's a window into the mind of a disturbed and unhinged woman, whose day job is dressing up as a princess at a theme park (it's not mentioned, but we all know she's Elsa from Frozen).

I didn't expect to like this, in fact, halfway through I was pretty sure the sexual violence paired with gore would repel me, but it actually compelled me to her story even further.

I do feel the ending was a bit rushed. And I'm still mentally screaming at the twist, because as fucked up as Maeve is, I just wanted her to be understood.

I also would like to add that the Halloween theme just sealed the deal for me. Costumes and decorations that are mixed with REAL elements... I loved that so much.

Also, I think I'm a bit terrified of CJ Leede's mind (she's extremely cool though, she reposted and replied to my Instagram story 🤭).
