The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden
3.0
3.5/5
This book was a good read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That being said I think it is fair to say this book is mostly historical fiction with a twist of fantasy. Fantasy being the twist of ghosts and the devil, which some may not consider fantasy at all. It really is up to the reader.
"Magic’s just science we don’t understand.”
This is not a happy book. It is a very real scope of WW1 from a nurse and soldier point of view. It is emotional, gut wrenching, an overall depressing. It is incredibly important though. It is important to realize that this is a very real life for many people in past, present, and future.
It takes you through the comparison of hell on earth or hell in a new world, either way it is hell all around. Is the devil one who takes your soul one memory at a time, or is it the one who orders the war that will end thousands of lives?
