A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
5.0
4.5
Initially, I was a tad skeptical to even buy this book because I though that this is going to be about an old man (well, it is). But after months of ignoring rave reviews on Instagram and Goodreads, I decided to hit that ‘Buy Now’ button on Amazon, and thought to myself that if I don’t like it, I just don’t like it . . . you can’t love all the books and we’ll see how it goes.

So, I started reading and, slowly, a warm feeling started to make its way into my heart. Not only that, I was laughing out loud all the time. Ove is a funny, funny man; he doesn’t intend to be funny but the way he is and the things he does just leaves you in splits.
The events that took place in Ove’s life just broke my heart. I cried my heart out for a good ten minutes after I finished reading this novel (the last time I balled like a baby was when I read The Kite Runner, and it has been long, long time since I read it). The story might be fiction but this book made me feel that there is still some hope left in this world . . . that there are people who love others unconditionally and are kind.
Lastly, I would say, hats off to Henning Koch for translating the story to English and making it reach thousands of readers across the world.
A Man Called Ove is a soul-stirring novel. It will move you, make you cry, spread warmth throughout your body, and make you realize that there is still good in the world. Verdict: BUY! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
