The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

5.0

Xiomara — I really felt the emotions and personality of this character was portrayed very well. I really felt the voice of Xiomara throughout the novel and she was very easy to relate to. Xiomara represents many teenagers and young adults today. She is so important!!
I feel, since it was a poetry book, it was extremely well-written. Acevedo had a way with words which kept me, as a reader, completely engaged the entire time. I feel that this book could really help many people, not just teens, deal with and understand their thoughts. I feel this novel is very important for those who feel misunderstood. It is engaging and inspiring.
Since this was Acevedo’s debut novel, I did not go in with too many expectations. I also did not hear much about it when it did come out, so I did not have any thoughts going in. But after reading it, any expectations I would have had, it would have surpassed. It was phenomenal.
Considering that I read this in one sitting, and if you could not tell by the rest of the review… YES!! I definitely recommend people to read this. It is a completely underrated novel which needs attention. You will not be disappointed by this piece of work.
