This was incredible. It was triggering and emotional. Anyone with an unconventional childhood will likely have a physical reaction to this book while reading. I am, just reflecting on it now to write this. What an amazing journey this woman had through post-sec after never having received any formal schooling. The strength it had to take to push through while mentally and emotionally struggling and wrestling with her beliefs, her family, who she thought she was, and who she wanted to be.
I would have loved to see photos of the mountain she describes so often, the junkyard, the house, the town, her family, and the schools she attends, but I'll live. I feel that the author gave us the memories and moments that were most relevant to shaping who she is now, that she felt she could share at the time of writing this book. I bet she has three more books like this in her, all with new information we haven't heard yet. And I think it's important when reading a memoir to remember that some things can't be written while we still wrestle with complex relationships and feelings about those people still living.
