I liked this book but it was not without its flaws. Let's get those out of the way first. There are a lot of characters in this book that are all different, in gender, in age, in socio-economic class, in wealth etc but they all sound exactly the same. If I hadn't read the chapter headings I wouldn't know who was talking (or thinking) most of the time. There were one too many twists at the end, all of which I saw coming, also some of the actions of the characters were absurd and bizarre.
Now for the but... I still liked it. I enjoyed hating the character we're supposed to hate. I thought the character of Johnno was excellent; complex, nuanced, not entirely likeable, in sway to a person they deep down know is a dick but still unable to stop pandering to them. The whole shebang. I wasn't bored at any stage and I wanted to know what happened. The villain of the book was a bit cartoonish but I can forgive it because he was at least interesting, and remorseless in a way that genuine narcissists are.
It's not Shakespeare but it passed some enjoyable hours.
