The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
This is the third time I'm reading this and the second time unabridged.
I've always felt the three books really can't be read separately and need to be taken as a whole. If I had to, however, I would say that this is better than the third book and only slightly less perfect than the first book. There is plenty of action and the two big battles are one of the few literary battles I manage to follow withouth drifting off.
