A lovely balance of prose and poetry that only takes a bit of grit to work through. Christopher does an amazing job sharing the history of the writings and explains the development of the texts with a clear timeline of when they were written and the changes between them. It is a beautiful fantasy love story that provides a good base for some history of middle earth during the First and Second Age.
