Breathe by Abbi Glines
3.0
Oh, Abbi Glines, how your book's quotes led me to believe Breathe was going to be truly great. Then again, I guess I should've known better because you can find good quotes in bad books (see Twilight, particularly Jake Black's "Life sucks, and then you die.")
I didn't hate Breathe, but it wasn't anything that swept me off my feet. The plot was okay, if a little cliche. Haven't we already read the rock star or movie star falling in love with the poor small town girl? Other authors do this better. Refer to This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith if you don't believe me. I liked Sadie enough as a character, but she lacked the spunk and spirit of heroines such as Abby in Beautiful Disaster and Sky in Hopeless. Jax did very little for me as a love interest. He was just too much of a cliche, and I already have a favorite boy rock star in fiction (see Hunter in Unmaking Hunter Kennedy by Anne Eliot). I preferred Marcus, but I really hated the preview for Abbi Glines's next book after this featuring him so I don't know if I'll be seeing him again soon. I loved everyone who worked at Jax's house (Ms. Mary and Mr. Greg), but I absolutely despised Sadie's mom. What a worthless woman!
Overall, Breathe was okay, but it wasn't anything knew. If you're going to do something that's already been done a million times, you need to do it better than those people. This wasn't better.
