Quicksilver by Callie Hart

This book pissed me off to no end.
Why?
Because it actually had potential to be a fantastic story.
I'll say it one more time for the people in the back...
A novel can be considerered "adult" without the characters making dick jokes and sexual innuendos every two paragraphs.

I'm not sure what the hell the first 80% of this book was, but it was so disconnected, inconsistent, and for lack of a better word cliché. It was like two different authors wrote the first 80% and the last 20%. It was like a contest of how many book tropes we can slam into one story and it just fell so flat. We have older characters that act like teenagers, making dick jokes and throwing tantrums, while also trying to take the story seriously. The banter felt more eye-roll and cringe worthy than it felt endearing. The "enemies" to lovers shit wasn't even believed by the characters. They hate each other, but literally cannot stop saying every five minutes how they really don't. Like fuck this story would have flowed so much better if we just went straight into them loving each other. It just felt like the characters overall were lacking and unoriginal.

******SPOILERS***********************
The inconsistences killed me. We go on about how Fae have superior hearing and smell, to the point of being able to hear a heartbeat from long distances. Then we go on to talk about how a human full blow springs through a fully guarded palace and somehow isn't seen by any guards, she just "sneaks" past. Then we have the big bad villain's talk about their whole devious plan they have worked on for thousands of years and how it all hedges on our one alchemist friend, just for one of them to murder her 10 pages later. ????????????? like helllo?????????????????? you being waiting all this time to fucking MURDER YOUR ONE KEY TO THE OTHER REALMS????? THAT MAKES SENSE.

Carrion was literally a waste of fucking space. His character only offered dick jokes and the cuntest frat boy behavior possible to the story. He literally would try and stick his dick in anything that would let him. I feel like his behavior hurt the story so much.

Also Danya ? point of that bitch ?

That being said, the last 20% was so good. I loved the Quicksilver and the detailed parts of the forging process. I loved Kingfisher and Saeris relationship once they both finally fucking admitted to liking each other. I loved all the different races in the world of Yvelia. I loved the comradery towards the end. I loved the tattoos.

I am interested to see how this series continues. I'm hoping the author just needed to stubble through the sand a bit and that book two will be more solid.
