Every since reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, I have been looking for a book that gave me the same type of feelings and experience that Gone Girl did. Well I can finally say that I found it in The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. This is a twisty domestic thriller that is packed with mystery as well as phycological terror. For Millie she needs this job, she is a down on her luck woman with a past. Nina seems to have it all, a beautiful house, beautiful pristine white clothes, and a handsome husband that seems to adore the ground she walks upon. Millie interviews for a live in nanny position for Nina, her husband and their school aged daughter, and all seems to be turning around for Millie as she is hired for the position. So why is it when Millie comes for her first day, the pristine house that she interviewed in is littered and strewn with trash? Why is Nina who seemed so put together, now looking disheveled and purposely trying to undermined and gaslight Millie? Why is her loving husband looking more and more sad, why are Nina's so called best friends letting on that Nina has frequented the state hospital? Get ready for a wild ride that will have your fingers gripped to the pages and will have you picking up your jaw from the floor.
