Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear

informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

Atomic Habits was a really interesting new look into behaviour change and habit formation. As someone with a background in psychology, it didn’t give a huge amount of new information which I didn’t already know (although this would not be the case for most other people), but I still really enjoyed the way Clear re-framed this knowledge in easy to understand and apply ways. The examples he used were interesting and engaging, and demonstrated everything he was talking about really well.

I was able to see my own behaviour reflected in the writing, and get some new insights into where I might have been going wrong before in terms of trying to form and stick to new habits. I really took a lot away from the book that I’ll try and apply in the future. I found myself wanting to make so many notes throughout so that I could refer back in the future.

The overall message is that your system needs to be optimised to ensure success, and that there are constantly ways to do this which are easy to implement, which makes a lot of sense, as well as trying to alter your mindset to help with habit formation too. I would highly recommend, both for those who have and haven’t looked into this area before, as I think everyone can take at least something from reading Atomic Habits.
