Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

4.0

Clever writing, compelling story, but as with other Gaiman work I'm left wondering, is that all there is? Is it all just on the surface or is he playing with ideas that are a bit more substantive. My feeling is no, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

I feel like if I want to read this kind of urban fantasy with mythic undertones, I might as well read China Mieville and get some meat to go with my potatoes... It kinda feels like Mieville read Neverwhere and was so frustrated by the lack of depth, or internal critique, he decided to write UnLundun, and ended up with a better book.
