Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
2.0
Well yes, it was a decent read, but what else?
What's with the moral here? Four kids, who are supposed to represent the seven (four?) cardinal sins, are punished, and a fifth exemplary one is rewarded with a magical chocolate factory.
Do we really want to let kids know that the world is a fair place for those that seek righteousness? You're setting them up for failure. And what's more troubling, you're setting them up for servitude, because the selfish and the greedy ones will use their naivety in their advantage.
Well, fuck that.
The world is not fair. Santa Claus is not real. And there are no chocolate factories for the well-behaved kids. There are, however, rewards to being a good person, and Dahl was to lazy illustrate them in his story appropriately...
