A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

sad

4.5

At first it was difficult for me to get into the book. The main character isn’t even just grumpy, he was driving me nuts. I didn’t vibe with the author’s writing style (Ove did this and Ove did that and Ove thought this and Ove thought that - you could take a shot every time his name is mentioned on a page and be drunk afterwards). But then it grew on me. Ove is such a tender-heart when you know him better. He is grumpy yes, but at the same time very sweet and you read about his daily life with great pleasure (heart on the neighbour and her kids also ❤️). The book is written in small chapters, each telling a little snippet of Ove’s life (present and past when he met his wife). It’s cute and fluffy and hopeful even though it talks of difficult subjects (TW : child loss, death, suicide, incurable disease, loneliness, depression, and every other subject you could encounter while aging …) just as other Backman’s books. But yeah pay attention. It will eventually break your heart. Deeply. I am still crying writing this review.
