The Broken Daughter by Samantha Shaye

fast-paced

3.0

The Broken Daughter is the first book in The Cursed Kingdom series. The book follows Princess Aymeri after her mother, the queen, is found dead.

The book was full of mysterious elements and court politics with a tiny amount of romance. It was fast and easy to read, keeping me entertained from beginning to end. I enjoyed the writing style and found the book to be well-written.

The plot was quite predictable, and I personally didn’t like the FMC; she was quite childish at times and cried a lot. However, I still enjoyed reading the book. It was a nice palette cleanser between some heavier and darker books.

The book is YA, and although I occasionally enjoy reading YA fantasy, I probably wasn’t the target audience for this book. But I’m sure a lot of younger readers might really enjoy it (and I probably would have loved this book as a child/teen).

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
