The Last Shield by Cameron Johnston
5.0
my initial plan was to go slow with this one, only because it's not every so often we get a cameron johnston release. unfortunately, as with all of his books, by the time you're hooked you can't put it down.
one of my karate teachers was this 5 foot nothing older woman (who now has a knee replacement), and who shoots and the entire time reading this I saw her just being hyper competent and fucking up some reivers. I also saw Matthew Reilly's mother character, and anything that reminds me of her is always a great time.
you get an unapologetic sense from all of Johnston's books, and this was no different. I loved it, and have committed to buying Johnston a good bottle of scotch if I ever run into him - and if you end up in Sydney Cam, a legendary night out (and maybe a good word with Ed Wilson!)
