One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle
emotional
reflective
3.0
This was my second book by Rebecca Serle and I liked this one a lot more than In Five Years! It was a lovely summer read and the setting made me long for a summer getaway. I've been to Italy twice and this book made me dream of those past holidays.
The story was very unique. I think I'm not much of a magical realism person but I kind of liked the time travel/alternate universe aspect of the book. The way Katy's and her mom's relationship was written felt a bit weird for me sometimes. When Katy was talking about her mother it often felt like she was talking about a lost lover.
I did not understand the end and I have no idea how Katy went back to the present but she did somehow. This whole time travel thing did not work out well in the end but I guess that is normal for the genre?
The one thing I really hated about the book was the casual infidelity and I just don't get why books romanticize cheating so often.
