Neon Gods by Katee Robert
3.0
So I started this book because I needed a happy book to relax after reading half of Malibu Rising (I really needed a break from that book) And neon gods did its job.
To be honest, I didn't understand the world-building. Like at all. If someone could kindly explain it to me, I'd be really grateful. The only thing I got was that it's happening in a real world yet somehow isolated. And the only fantasy details were Hermes' abilities and magic of the bridges that doesn't let people cross them.
I loved the romance because I like good hades and persephone retellings and it was a good one indeed. I adored all the soft moments between hades and persephone, and honestly felt like all sex scenes were in the right place at the right time at the right pace. I'm not sure how to explain but it didn't feel like sex scenes for the sake of the sex scene as it often feels like in this genre.
Oh, and by the way, i just must include the fact that the relatiosnhip between hades and lower city reminded me of rhysand and velaris (from a court of thorns and roses), but hades is everything rhysand wishes he could be as he doesn't have all those controversial moments.
Hermes is a great character and I really really hope we'll get her book. And that Legally Blonde reference she made? Iconic. But i also wanted more of a Dionysus..
Anyways, really enjoyed this one and can't believe I have to wait SIX months for the second time. Miss the times when every series I read was finished.
Why three stars? I didn't connect emotionally to it. It didn't hurt. It was a happy book for me after all. So I can't give it five stars but I really reccomend it to fans of romance
