Three Ordinary Girls tells the story of three women during WWII who played key roles in the Dutch resistance - Jannetje Johanna “Jo” Schaft, and Truus and Freddie Oversteegen.
I had never heard their stories before and the author does a great job providing historical context along with their personal stories to tell the tale of what was happening in the Netherlands and Holland in particular during the German occupation.
All three girls joined the resistance as teenagers, and found their lives irrecoverably changed.
Overall I enjoyed this book and found it really compelling, but I wish it had more of a narrative to it rather than “this happens and then this happens and then this”. It didn’t keep me from enjoying it and wanting to know what happened next, but for me the writing was a little dry.
