As Lolita is for Vanessa, so My Dark Vanessa be for me as long as I live.
This book encapsulates what it’s like to be a victim of abuse, who does not believe they are the victim. Watching Vanessa painstakingly come to the conclusion that you have made as the reader is absolutely agonizing, and ultimately thrilling. This novel is a classic for modern times.
How much strength does it take for the girl to get over it? Which one of them do you think is stronger?
The prose is deep and profound and I highlighted and underlined 3/4 of the book. I appreciate the time and effort the author went to in order to tell a very real story. My Dark Vanessa feels like a memoir, more than fiction.
