The Riddle of the Labyrinth: The Quest to Crack an Ancient Code by Margalit Fox

I spent this entire book squealing in joy oh my god

It’s about the three people who mainly translated Linear B, which was both definitely writing and definitely not related to any surviving writing making it a challenge to translate. The first was the man who discovered the tablets, the second was a woman who singlehandedly invented a method to translate a script of an unknown language, and the third was the man who, after her death, took her work and completed the translation.

I have absolutely no words for the labor of love involved in taking two thousand clay tablets, last understood by humans three thousand years ago, and turning them into something people today can understand and connect with.
