I really didn’t know what to expect aside from it being about 12th-century nuns, and it was really unexpected in its plot and structure and style and I really loved it! I was a little unsure at first, it was a bit slow and I didn’t know where it was going, but it was just quite simply the most lyrical and beautiful book I’ve ever read. I felt wholly transported and invested in this story, and loved seeing how history and legends are made in real time. Also like very relevant allusions to climate change and how humans impact the world around us, which I thought helped make this more impactful to a modern audience. And I love Marie in all her passion and size and thinly veiled rage. What a surprise that I absolutely adored.
